Francis W. Dahl (1907–1973), a celebrated American cartoonist widely known as Boston's "Cartoon Laureate" for his long-running work in the Boston Herald and Boston Herald-Traveler.
The comic pokes satirical fun at a small snippet of trivia featured in the upper right corner: "A goose quill pen maker in Charlottesville still makes thousands of quill pens a year and sells them for two cents."
It follows a colonial-era writer trying to write with a quill pen at his desk. As he repeatedly ruins his quills or runs into trouble, he keeps having to look out the window or head to the post office ("April Mail — Eight Cents"). Ultimately, he tracks down a live goose out in a field to pluck a fresh feather directly from the source to finish his letter.

This framed item is an original signed editorial cartoon by longtime Boston Herald cartoonist Jim Dobbins, published on February 7, 1975.
Themed around the "BIG C", featuring satirical commentary referencing Monsanto Co. and Harvard Medical School amid a scientific/technological backdrop ("We've split the atom, landed on the moon... now —").
A winner of more than 50 national awards, drawings by Dobbins have appeared in Time, Newsweek, US News. Dobbins is in both Who's Who in the U.S. and Who's Who in the World. A Naval Air Corps veteran, Dobbins is the holder of a Distinguished Flying Cross and the Navy Air Medal for combat in the South Pacific.
